Gas station owner accused of assaulting another could see his July trial delayed

By Medicine Hat News on May 26, 2021.

The pending trial set for July of a gas station owner accused of assaulting two members of the service station across from his may be delayed, a Medicine Hat court heard Tuesday.

Anwar Kamaran is facing two allegations of assault causing bodily harm stemming from a price war between to gas stations in Walsh that turned violent last year.

Kamaran has been dealing with a revolving door of legal counsel since his arrest, with the latest in a string of at least four lawyers coming on the record earlier this month.

His latest lawyer told the court he isn’t available for the trial currently set for July 12.

The Crown indicated it is ready to proceed and requested an application to adjourn the matter be heard at his next appearance on June 1.
