Unused Aurora facility causing issues for company’s books

By Medicine Hat News on May 14, 2021.

The stalled Aurora Sun cannabis plant is continuing to weigh down the financials of its parent company, according to the latest quarterly financial report.

Aurora Cannabis’s Medicine Hat facility is currently listed for sale as part of the company’s restructuring efforts.

According to the company’s third-quarter report, the Sun plant is Aurora’s largest idle facility in terms of cash value, making up $35.5 million of the total cost of properties, plants and equipment not in use.

The company is also reporting a more than $220-million impairment loss total on the Sun facility in the first three quarters.

Work was halted last year on the 1.7-million square-foot facility, which sits on 72 acres of land in the Box Springs Business Park.
