As online learning begins, public division reports three more cases

By Medicine Hat News on May 11, 2021.

Three positive COVID-19 cases were announced at three different Medicine Hat Public School Division schools over the weekend.

On Saturday, Alberta Health Services identified positive cases at Crestwood School and Medicine Hat High School. An additional case at Elm Street School was announced by the division on Sunday.

The MHPSD has identified all close contacts from the three cases and they have been directed to quarantine, reads the division’s release on its website. There have been a total of six COVID-19 cases connected to Crestwood School during the pandemic.

“We are confident, based on AHS guidance, that those who have not been directed to quarantine can go about their daily lives,” reads the release.

Students across the province are currently learning at home due to the latest round of pandemic restrictions in Alberta, however MHPSD says they will continue to notify the school community when it becomes aware of additional COVID-19 cases connected to its schools.

“During the temporary online learning period we will have some staff and students coming into the school building and we will remain open by appointment. We remind staff, visitors, volunteers to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist,” says the release.
