A solar power car-charging station could be coming to Irvine, a list of new development permits issued by Cypress County shows.

Dandelion Renewables presented its plan to county council two weeks ago, and permits for the use were detailed on Tuesday.

The station would be located at 60 Thompson St., in the hamlet east of Dunmore on the Trans-Canada Highway and would feature a ground mounted solar panel array to power the station.

Public Alert test

A nationwide test of the emergency alert system will take place today, Ottawa announced this week.

The test will occur at 1:55 p.m. local time in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Helium plant opens

North American Helium has begun operating its $32-million helium purification facility in Battle Creek, south of the west block of the Cypress Hills, that company and provincial officials announced last week.

The government of Saskatchewan states the number of active helium wells in the southwest regions now numbers nine and 24 others are in the process of being drilled.

The MA Helium plant benefited from an oil and gas processing grant from the province that pays up to 15 per cent of capital costs on new facilities in royalty credits.
