Highway traffic near the Trans-Canada Bridge in Medicine Hat will be slowed for up to three weeks as crews reconfigure the intersection at First Street to eliminate left turns.
Once complete, vehicles will not be able to cross traffic while entering the highway from either First Street SW or Powerhouse Road (the access to the city’s river valley power plant).
Right-turn lanes for accelerating and slowing down will also be extended, according to Alberta Transportation, which is also adding lanes and signals to off-ramps at the Highway 3-Trans-Canada overpass further east in southwest Medicine Hat.
That work is scheduled to last throughout May, and will include nearby work to add an all-turns intersection at Eighth Avenue in the light industrial area. That road provides access between Bomford Crescent to Gershaw Drive.
Schedules are weather dependent.
