Peavey Mart should be open in Brooks by year end

By Medicine Hat News on April 27, 2021.

Rural work and lifestyle retailer Peavey Mart will set up shop in Brooks later this year, the Red Deer-based company announced Sunday.

Work to renovate a 23,000-square foot bay at the former Freson Bros. Grocery location on Fairview Avenue in that city will begin this spring and be ready to open by the end of 2022.

The independent grocery chain announced the closure of its Brooks location in July 2020. About half the space has already been leased to become a Dollarama, and the remainder will be filled by Peavey Mart.

That company expects to employ a workforce of about 30 full-time positions when the outlet is in operation, it said this week.

Peavey Mart opened a new location in Airdrie over the weekend, and currently operates stores in Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Strathmore and High River in southern Alberta, among 40 throughout Western Canada.

It also recently announced it had acquired land for a new store and distribution centre in Red Deer.
