Sentencing set for May 31 for man guilty of dangerous driving causing death

By Medicine Hat News on April 22, 2021.

Sentencing for a man who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of a 72-year-old and injuring another individual outside Brooks in 2019 will take place next month.

Gavin Petrie was charged five months after the June 3, 2019 collision that occurred near the JBS plant west of Brooks.

Mounties at the time charges were laid said an investigation determined that a pickup truck travelling south on Range Road 150 collided with an SUV going eastbound on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene with that vehicle’s passenger transported to hospital.

Petrie, 53, entered guilty pleas to two offences in December – dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm.

Sentencing is set for May 31 at Brooks Provincial Court.
