Alberta Health Services has identified a positive case of COVID-19 at Crescent Heights High School, according to a statement released by the Medicine Hat Public School Division on Tuesday night.

The school will stay open and all close contacts of the positive case have been identified and are already in quarantine.

“It appears that the exposure was limited to a small group of students and staff and we are confident, based on AHS guidance, that staff and students who have not been directed to quarantine can attend school safely,” reads the statement.

The school’s custodial services team conducted an enhanced cleaning of the building before students and staff came back. Additional cleaning was focused on areas where the individual was present and the high touch areas throughout the school, says MHPSD.

The daily health measures the MHPSD has in place are effective in limiting the spread of COVID-19 and variant cases in its schools, says the statement.

“Although it is not possible for us to stop COVID-19 and the variants of concern from spreading in our schools, we are committed to working together to protect our school community, reduce exposure and limit the spread.”
