Accused pleads guilty to indecent act involving hotel worker

A 33-year-old man pleaded guilty Tuesday at Medicine Hat Provincial Court to committing an indecent act at a city hotel last year.

Steven Gregory Atkins was charged Nov. 16, 2020 after a female hotel worker contacted police to report being flashed when delivering room service.

The court heard Atkins opened the door to his hotel room dressed in only a towel when the room service was delivered and undid it revealing an erection.

Atkins reportedly said “oops,” put the towel back on before dropping it again.

A pre-sentence report was requested with sentencing scheduled for July 29.

Penitentiary for coke trafficking

Curtis Rodin received a two-year federal sentence after pleading guilty to possession of more than half a kilogram of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking.

Police received information from a confidential informant that Rodin was trafficking in the drug and arrested on Oct. 12, 2018.

A search of the 25-year-old’s home turned up more than 600 grams of cocaine in various locations in the man’s home.

The court heard from both Crown and defence that Rodin was not the main target of the investigation and the plea and joint sentence recommendation came about as there were possible issues with the search of the man’s home.

Rodin was issued a 10-year firearms ban and ordered to provide a DNA sample.

Teen sentenced on laundry list of charges

An 18-year-old Medicine Hat man was sentenced to nearly five months jail on a range of charges from domestic abuse to mischief.

Mackenzie Virovec entered guilty pleas to two incidents involving assaulting his ex-girlfriend in 2020 as well as causing damage to two city elementary schools.

Virovec was also ordered to have no-contact with his former girlfriend for one year as well as being required to pay restitution for thousands of dollars in damages to several individuals and both Ross Glen and Mother Teresa schools.

Warrant issued for robbery suspect

A warrant was issued for Chol Mayol Ador after he failed to appear for trial on robbery and weapons charges Tuesday.

Ador was charged in connection with a robbery which took place in Medicine Hat on Dec. 30, 2019.

Trial date to be set for attempted murder

A trial date for an anticipated three-week trial is expected to be set in June for a man accused of attempted murder.

Hamza Kamal Sindi, 25, was charged four months after police allege he shot at a home located on Fourth Street SW in May 2020.

Sindi is also facing several firearms-related charges as well as one of attempting to forged identity document.
