ktaniguchi@medicinehatnews.com@@kellentaniguchi The Medicine Hat Catholic Schools’ Education Foundation is cancelling its 2021 annual golf tournament fundraiser and replacing it with a 50/50 draw. “It’s unfortunate that we can not have the golf tournament because we get good support from the community and it’s not so much the golf tournament, it’s the social aspect and getting out and seeing the people again,” said Rob Stroh, foundation chair. “That’s disappointing but it’s a different world we live in right now. So, we’re hoping we’ll still be able to continue on with our projects and stuff with support from the good people of Medicine Hat.” The tournament is usually held at Cottonwood Coulee Golf Course, but Stroh says especially with the current third wave of the pandemic, cancelling the tournament is the right decision. The raffle draw will take place June 11 and tickets can be purchased online at rafflebox.ca/raffle/mhcsef. Ticket options include: $10 for one, $20 for four, $50 for 20 and $100 for 100. Stroh says tickets are limited at a value of $10,000 with the draw winner taking home a maximum of $5,000. He adds regardless of sales, the minimum amount the winner will receive is $2,000. Funds from their fundraisers typically go toward scholarships for students, grants and educational activities, said Stroh. He adds there is still a need to have a fundraiser this year because students still want to continue their education and pursue post-secondary options. If the draw is a success this year, the foundation hopes to have it again next year along with its golf tournament resuming in 2022. “People in Medicine Hat are very generous, they’ve certainly supported us in the past and they’ve always come through. So, we’re hoping for their support again,” he said. 10
