Nominations for annual civic awards are now open

Nominations for annual civic awards are now open to honour Hatters who exemplified community spirit in a variety of areas as well as made substantial contributions to the community.

The Community Spirit Awards are awarded annually to nominees in seven categories: arts and culture, sports and recreation, compassion, environment, community inclusion, volunteerism and civic pride

Two awards of excellence include the “Heart of Medicine Hat,” for those making major contributions aside from typical business activity for at least 15 years. The “Changemaker” award, symbolic of advocacy and innovation in community development for at least five years.

Nomination and submission requirements are outlined on the city’s website (www.medicinehat.com).

Nominations are also open to residents of Cypress County and Redcliff, though only contributions tot he Medicine Hat community will be considered in local awards.

The deadline to submit nominations is May 31.

Redcliff streets

The annual spring street sweeping campaign in Redcliff got underway Wednesday. Officials say the program will continue on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and remind residents to be mindful of temporary parking restriction signs to ensure as much roadway as possible is cleaned.
