Hill County, Mont., is approaching the halfway mark to vaccinating its 12,000 eligible residents from the coronavirus, according to figures released Monday by state health authorities. Close to 7,400 doses of vaccine have been administered to the eligible population of 12,400 living in the region across the international boundary from Cypress County, Alta. That number includes 2,900 second doses – the point considered to provide full immunity from the deadly respiratory illness. One new active case in Hill County this week brings the total active cases to four, and total cases to 1,939, or about one in six residents. One new COVID-related death on March 18 brings the total number of deaths to 42 in the county of about 16,000 people. In comparison, a total of 17 people have died in Medicine Hat, which has a population of about 63,000, and has seen fewer than 600 cases. Statewide, 420,500 doses had been administered, including 163,200 second doses, to Montana’s general population of about 1.1 million. The state death toll stands at 1,431. 8
