Organizers of the Medicine Hat Spring Bull Show and Sale were glad to be back at it for the 63rd annual event in 2021.
This year’s two-day event was held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Cypress Centre pavilion at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede grounds.
“It was a good show, and all sold,” said show secretary Nicona Brost. “And it was a decent turnout considering the situation all over the world.”
Three sales were registered by internet buyers in the live auction handled by Balog Auction Services.
Among Herefords, 45 animals moved for a total of $258,450, making the average bid $5,750, though two offerings ran well up over the $11,000 mark.
The gavel fell at $11,750 for a two-year-old 1,835-pounder, who secured best in senior class for the breed.
“Lampert’s Original 111G” was brought to auction by Lampert’s Polled Herefords, located near Balzac, and went home to the Blaschuk Land and Cattle, near Chaplin, Sask.
A near top price of $11,500 was paid by Wendell Reimer, of Bar None Cattle in Carmen, Man., 2,150-pound “Greenbacks 92G.” The show’s junior champion bull and grand reserve champion in the class was raised by Church Ranch of Calgary.
Average bid for 10 Angus was $4,150, with the top price was paid by buyer Cliff Walde. He paid $5,750 for two-year-old “Red Copper LC Admiral 3G,” the show’s senior class champion.
Duchess, Alta., ranch outfit Kopper LC showed well in Red Angus show judging, with another 1,323-pound yearling earning both junior champion and grand reserve champion honours. “Red Kopper LC Earp 8H” was bought by Chomistek Farms, near Rolling Hills.
The reserve grand champion Angus arrived from the Echo Rock Ranch, near Cardston.
“The Duke of Echorock” was secured by Pakowki Ranching.
The grand champion Hereford was two-year-old “237B Billy Lad 235” from Lilybrook Hereford, of Claresholm, and was bought for $9,750 by Bar 4 Bar Ranches, of Eastend, Sask.
