A car dealership group based in southwest Saskatchewan is expanding into Alberta’s southeast.

Standard Motors will acquire Jackson Dodge in Medicine Hat at the end of the month, the Plewis Automotive Group announced Friday.

It will become Standard Jeep Ram, and the fifth dealership in the network including three in Swift Current and Standard Chev Buick in Shaunavon.

“This is a very exciting announcement for us as we are expanding our footprint and investment into Alberta,” said Ryan Plewis, co-owner along with brother Mark Plewis in the 110-year-old family business.

“In southwest Saskatchewan, we built our business on providing top-notch customer service and having a reputation for offering great value to both our customers and communities we serve,” said Mark Plewis.

Terms of the deal, with current owners Knight Automotive Group, were not disclosed.

Knight acquired the Jackson Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram dealership on Red Deer Drive in the early 2000s and maintained the former owner’s name on the business.

Cecil Jackson founded the dealership in 1990, expanding from Swift Current with the purchase of Gardiner Motors, then on 13th Avenue SE in the Hat.

A Knight-related company still owns Sun Valley Honda in southeast Medicine Hat.

Regina-based Knight previously owned Knight Nissan in Swift Current, and maintains dealerships in Regina, Moose Jaw and Weyburn in Saskatchewan, and Kamloops and Vancouver in British Columbia.
