YMCA Employment Centre in Brooks temporarily closed after staff member tests positive for COVID

By Medicine Hat News on March 12, 2021.

The YMCA Employment Centres in Brooks will be closed for at least two weeks after a positive case of COVID-19 was diagnosed in an employee.

The organization says the worker was asymptomatic and under health and safety policy was continuously masked while at work. Health officials require both locations – on Horticultural Station Road and on Second Avenue W. – in Brooks to temporarily close.

Medicine Hat locations are not affected.

Contract tracing is underway by Alberta Health Services and the facility is undergoing thorough sanitizing and cleaning, said YMCA CEO Sharon Hayward.

“Our approach at all times, has been guided by local and provincial health officials,” she said in a release. “While all recommended protocols were in place, we continue to review our efforts to ensure a safe environment at our YMCA.”

The facility will likely be closed until at least March 24, according to a release, and re-opening details will be made public when available.
