AHS upgrades online vaccine booking

By Alberta Newspaper Group on March 10, 2021.

Alberta Health Services has done another upgrade to its online tool to book an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccination and this resulted in a few hours of the service being interrupted early on Tuesday.

AHS launched the online booking tool in February when the vaccine became available for all seniors more than 75 years of age. Since then, the category of those eligible for the vaccine has expanded and more Albertans have the opportunity to book an appointment. Upgrades are necessary to prepare for the next wave of eligible Albertans, says AHS.

When there are upgrades being made to the online booking system it also affects those calling HealthLink at 811 to make an appointment. Those assisting callers are using the same computer system to schedule the appointments.

Anyone calling Health Link 811 to speak to a registered nurse for medical advice is not affected.

Some Albertans have the option of choosing to book an appointment for the vaccine through a pharmacy. Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer are currently the only cities where this is available. There are no pharmacy options in the south zone – yet.
