Montana surpasses 100,000 cases but has given vaccine first dose to 250K

By Medicine Hat News on March 4, 2021.

Total positive cases of COVID-19 surpassed 100,000 in Montana on Tuesday, about one year since the beginning of the pandemic.

At the same point, state health officials say more than a quarter-million vaccine shots had been administered, including about 90,500 as a second dose (considered the point at which the recipient is “fully immune.”)

The state’s total population is about 1.1 million residents.

New cases reached their highest daily point in early November at more than 1,600, though the average new case count over the past seven days is 164.

There are currently 1,651 active cases, and 1,372 people have died as of Tuesday.

Specific to Hill County, which includes Havre, Mont., a total of 1,913 people have tested positive since March 2020, and 39 people have died out of a total population of about 16,000.

The population in Hill County considered eligible for immunization is said to be 12,328, likely most adults. Up to Tuesday, 5,350 shots had been given, including 1,735 second doses.
