Hatter Pete Rose has worked just about every job imaginable.
He spent time with law enforcement, worked as a painter and served in the military for years – to name a few.
Throughout that time, a passion for music stayed with him, and is fueling his latest venture: Round Again Records.
Rose opened his record store in October in downtown’s Arcade Plaza, and has already had to find a bigger space in the building to keep up with demand.
“It’s really good so far,” said Rose. “Every week seems to get a little busier and we keep seeing new faces.”
Rose’s store specializes in used records, which people can sell to him or trade for different material. He carries vinyl, CD, cassettes and even has 8-tracks. He also sells turn tables and speakers.
“We’re always buying, trading and selling,” he said. “We post a lot on our Facebook page and in different groups to let people know what we have down here.
“Right now the focus is on used. Maybe down the line I can look at new stuff, but for now I’m just focused on used.”
A used-vinyl void was left in the community when Big Al’s Records closed for good in the fall. Rose says he and Big Al’s owner Dale Brigham are friends, and they worked together to get Round Again Records off the ground.
“When Dale decided to retire last year, I really wanted to make sure our community had somewhere to go for used vinyl,” said Rose. “I have been a vendor at different collector shows for so many years, I had a lot of the gear to get a store going.
“I started chatting with the owner of the building here and it ended with me renting out a spot. I’m happy I can kind of pick up where Dale left off with his store.”
Rose says there is an appetite for used records in the city.
“There are a lot of collectors here,” he said. “I’ve had people come from Lethbridge to check the store out, and had a guy from B.C. who was passing through.
“I’ve shipped stuff around the province, and to B.C. and Ontario.”
The store sells a large variety of music spanning nearly every genre.
Round Again Records can be found on Facebook and is located at 419 Third St. SE.
