Tender awards for the coming 2021 construction season were awarded Tuesday night at Medicine Hat city council’s meeting.

Hamm Construction’s bid of $3.73 million secured sewer and water works in the Flats neighbourhood.

Its was the lowest of eight compliant bids submitted by 10 companies.

Work on Fifth St., between Allowance and Maple Avenue, would see water and sewer mains replaced along with required gutters and curbs and catch basins.

The same sort of work would then proceed on Foundry Street between Allowance Ave. and Smelter Ave.

Work is set to conclude on Oct. 31.

The project will be paid for with amounts out of the Environmental Utilities general construction budget for the 2019 to 2021 financial years.

Data centre upgrade

Data centres at city hall will see an upgrade and new maintenance contract executed this spring, council heard this week.

Finance officials said Tuesday the work is in the current budget and is needed to update older software that is no longer under warranty.

New “hyper convergence infrastructure” and data centre backup system links the utility billing system and the general operating platform at the city.

Five companies provided proposals for the work that was budgeted to cost $1.3 million when it was included in the 2018-2022 city budget.

Nationwide public sector IT service provider, Powerland, was awarded the work after submitting a bid of $1.25 million.
