The latest monthly edition of the Veiner Centre news is offering to reimburse Veiner Centre memberships for those who request this. Anyone wanting a refund should call the Veiner Centre, 403-529-8307.

A contract to operate the Veiner Centre and Strathcona Centres was recently awarded by the city to Calgary-bases Kerby Centre, which had the only bid in a request for proposals.

The Kerby Centre is expected to begin its contract in the summer. A spokesperson tells the News that the Veiner Centre’s name will not be changed.

“The Kerby Centre team is very excited to be working with the City of Medicine Hat on expanding the programs and reach of the Veiner Centre,” said CEO Larry Mathieson. “We expect to bring new ideas and programs to the facility, which will continue to be called the Veiner Centre.”

The Veiner Centre was named in honour of former mayor Harry Veiner, who donated the land. The Kerby Centre was named to honour Rev. Dr. George Kerby, founding principal of Mount Royal College.
