A large corporate donation to the Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation has made it possible to purchase vital equipment in the Intensive Care Unit at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

Canadian Pacific donated $23,000 to purchase a “LifePak 15” – an important piece of life-saving equipment.

CP made the donation through its community investment program, CP Has Heart. The initiative has helped raise more than $23.3 million with the aim of improving heart health across North America. Their priority is saving lives through research and better access to cardiac emergency response equipment and treatment.

“Investing in the communities in which we operate in and through is of vital importance to CP. CP is proud to donate $23,000 to replace the LifePak in the ICU of Medicine Hat Regional Hospital,” said Jamie Smithson, CP trainmaster in Medicine Hat. “Our hope is that this will continue to ensure the very best care possible for Medicine Hat and area patients.

“This life-saving equipment is used to monitor, defibrillate, do pacing and ECGs. It will be busy helping save lives in emergency situations and with patients being transferred within the hospital.”

Hospital ICU manager Sarah Beckman said she was thrilled to receive this vital equipment. The health foundation is the official fundraising arm of the MHRH and Alberta Health Services for southeastern Alberta.
