More than a year after being abandoned at a local boarding kennel, seven-year-old Staffordshire Terrier Petey’s story is getting its happy ending.
Petey and another dog, Rubble, were dropped off at Pet Park Boarding Kennel in late 2019. The dog’s owner left them there, and left the business with thousands in medical treatment that the dogs needed.
The dogs kept living at the kennel as the Southern Alberta Humane Society took on the task of getting the dogs adopted.
Rubble found his forever home last February, while Petey officially found his this past weekend.
Petey was adopted by Rob Taylor, who was fostering him for months.
“I had dogs growing up, but I’ve always wanted a Pit Bull or a Terrier,” he said. “Petey is exactly the type of dog I wanted.”
Petey had been adopted out once before by SAHS, but it wasn’t a good fit, and get kept looking for a home.
“He’s a great dog. He’s so happy to see everyone,” said Taylor. “He’s probably the world’s worst guard dog.
“I work in the oil industry and it’s been a really slow year. Now was a good time for me to introduce a dog into my life.”
Petey has been living in his new home for a while now and enjoys long walks and running around the backyard.
“We go for lots of walks and play fetch whenever we can,” said Taylor. “He’s great at waking me up in the morning and that gets me up and moving.
“We get along great.”
