Former Hatter faces several charges, including assaulting police officer in Strathcona County

A former Hatter arrested here on charges of assaulting a police officer in Strathcona County has been identified as Craig Perini, according to authorities there in media reports.

The 30-year-old man who is well known to Medicine Hat police was taken into custody Wednesday night after the local service employed its tactical team to bring the man in.

The particulars surrounding the arrest are not being released by the MHPS, but a release states the tact-team was engaged due to the nature of the charges and in the interest of public safety.

RCMP in Strathcona County, which includes Sherwood Park, reported that shortly before midnight on Jan. 24 officers determined a man near a gas station on Highway 21 was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

He was arrested but fled in a vehicle after an altercation that led to an officer sustaining minor injuries.

A release from Medicine Hat police states the man in question was also wanted on a warrant issued by mounties in Ft. Saskatchewan.

Those charges include two counts of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, resisting a police officer and flight from police, along with breach of a conditional sentence order and traffic safety matters.
