Major crimes investigators have taken over an investigation in Brooks, where the body of a 25-year-old man was found on Tuesday morning.
A brief release from the Brooks RCMP detachment on Wednesday states that it has passed off the file to the service’s Major Crime Unit for southern Alberta.
The body was found at a business in the city at about 11 a.m. on Jan. 19. They believe it to be an isolated incident and that there is no risk to the general public.
The name of the deceased is not being released and the investigation in continuing.
If the death is found to be unlawful, it would be the first homicide in the region for 2021, and comes about one year after the previous murder.
In early January 2020, RCMP discovered the body of a Brooks man in an area south of Medicine Hat, near Range Road 61 and Township Road 114. The identity of that 27-year old man was similarly not released by authorities, and the status of that investigation is not readily known.
