FLC to do maintenance before reopen

The parks and recreation department will move up maintenance projects at the Family Leisure Centre to have them complete before the facility is allowed to reopen.

The north-side facility is typically closed a few weeks each summer so crews can drain the pool, re-grout tiles, replace pipes and perform mechanical work. That will take place now in hopes of having it complete by Jan. 25.

“With current (health) restrictions extended two weeks, we were able to take the opportunity to complete these projects now, creating little to no impact on the community,” said Jeff Hoglund, the city’s recreation manager.

As well, mechanical work is underway on equipment at the site’s Cenovus Arena, and flooring in the field house has been replaced.

Storm cleanup

Officials are asking residents to report major damage to trees in parks and on boulevards from Wednesday’s wind storm to municipal arborists on the city’s “report a problem” webpage. They also stress using caution on trails and in parks while city workers continue to assess wide areas for damage.

Cleanup efforts are expected to last until Jan. 22.

Resident are reminded that fallen trees on private property are the responsibility of the property owner, and that fallen elm branches and trunks must be disposed of in a timely manner at the city’s landfill. Those measures in the city’s “tree preservation bylaw” prevent against the spread of Dutch elm disease.

Redcliff reopens

The Town of Redcliff offices will reopen to public visitors on Monday, the town announced Friday. Residents and those with business to conduct are still encouraged to deal with matters via telephone and email as much as possible.
