Brooks Freson Bros. grocery store to become a Dollarama discount outlet

By Medicine Hat News on January 9, 2021.

A former independent chain grocery store in Brooks is set to become a Dollarama, economic developers in that city announced this week.

About half the 40,000 square-foot former location of Freson Bros., groceries is now under construction to accommodate the discount retailer. About 22,000 square feet of the building on Second Street, which has a 3.5-acre parking lot, is still available.

There is no immediate timetable on the Dollarama conversation.

Freson Bros., based in Hinton, has 14 locations across Alberta, including Drumheller, Hanna and a soon-to-open store in Edmonton, according to the company’s website.

The company announced in July it would close the Brooks operation, which was established in 1972 and moved to the modern location in 1999.

A new roster of delegates to the Alberta Beef Producers shows a number of returning regional representatives after the industry group moved to a new five-region representation model for 2021, down from nine previously.

Lists of delegates, released Friday after voting earlier this week, shows southeast zone delegates as

An election was also held in the southwest region, while central, northeast and northwest candidates were acclaimed, and five more vacancies still exist in the northern regions.
