Regan Bartsoff and Toni Deis had a New Year’s Eve that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

The couple spent the night at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital after welcoming their daughter into the world.

Sydney Quinn Bartsoff arrived Thursday at 4:35 a.m. She weighs five pounds and nine ounces. She is 17 7/8 inches tall.

“She’s perfect,” Regan said. “She’s a tiny little peanut but she’s healthy and happy.

“Everything is good, all of her numbers are good. She’s super sleepy and snuggly right now, so we’re just enjoying that.”

Regan and Toni were expecting Sydney to arrive on Jan. 1 or 2, but the baby had different plans.

“The original date was Jan. 2, but we were hoping for Jan. 1,” said Regan. “With that said, there’s nowhere we’d rather be than right here with our daughter.

“We’re so thankful that she’s healthy.”

The couple says it had a wonderful experience at the local hospital during these strange times.

“The staff were all great,” said Regan. “It all went well and it was smooth.

“Toni is recovering really well and we’re hoping to be home in the next day or so.”

As for her names, Regan says the couple is paying tribute to his late grandfather.

“I really wish he could have been here to meet Sydney,” said Regan. “Sydney is where he is from, so we figured it was the perfect name.

“We both loved Sydney and Quinn, and both are unisex names like Toni and Regan are.”
