Medicine Hat’s State of the City address will be held online Jan. 26

The 2021 State of the City address by Mayor Ted Clugston will be held online next month.

Organizers began promoting the event Tuesday ahead of the Jan. 26 event.

It will be presented virtually over Zoom, and there will be no admission charge for the event that typically takes place in the ballroom of the Medicine Hat Lodge.

This year, attendees who view the proceedings online are encouraged to order in lunch from a restaurant of their choice.

The event has featured some big announcements in the past.

Mayor Garth Vallely publicly announced an effort to replace the aging Medicine Hat Arena at the 2005 event. More recently, Mayor Ted Clugston announced his 2017 re-election campaign and two years ago introduced officials from Folium Biosceinces who vowed to build a hemp processing facility In the city.

The State of the City address is jointly organized and promoted by the Kiwanis Club of Medicine Hat and the local Chamber of Commerce. This year’s supporters include the Esplanade Theatre, which provides technical support for city broadcasts, and Shaw-TV, which has aired the event in the past.
