Utility prices are moving in different directions in December for residential and small- to medium-commercial accounts in Medicine Hat. The rate for natural gas of the month will be $2.77 per gigajoule according to rates published Tuesday by the city’s utility department. That is down from $3.14 in November, while the rate of power moves up about 10 per cent to 6.7-cents per kilowatt hour. Last month’s power price was 5.95-cents. Medicine Hat sets its commodity rates at the average of default contract prices offered by major utilities acres the province. Comparable rates for the month for gas are $2.705 from Direct Energy and $2.82 from AltaGas. Four power rates range from 6.48-cents from Direct to 6.8-cents from Epcor’s Edmonton service. 6
