Community Foundation’s volunteer door-hanger campaign ready for delivery

By Medicine Hat News on November 26, 2020.

Hatters looking for help, or for a way to help out, can expect more information coming soon to a doorknob near them.

The Community Foundation of Southeast Alberta is in the midst of a door-hanger campaign that will promote volunteer opportunities for those looking to pitch in as well as outline community resources for those experiencing difficulty.

“It’s all there for people who need help or want to help, and hopefully, that’s everybody,” said Sidney Ratzlaff, the volunteer co-ordinator for the Community Foundation.

Even if people are uncomfortable during a health crisis, she said there are a variety of either at home, administration or active in person volunteering opportunities.

While one side of the flyer that will soon appear on residences features avenues for volunteering, while the other provides information about access aid and support programs.

Last year the CFSEA partnered with the “Just Serve” effort in Medicine Hat. That website and directory is operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and is specific to cities where local organizations post positions and programs.

“We found that the site is under utilized and we want to get the word out that there are opportunities for people who want to get out of their shell or get active,” said Ratzleff.

As well, the Community Foundation is also looking for more volunteers of its own to deliver the door hangers in several areas of the city.

The no-contact delivery is needed in several more areas of the city. Interested parties should contact the CFSEA during business hours.

The hangers have already been delivered to some areas, and should appear soon across the city.
