Of all the COVID-19 cases requiring hospitalization in the south zone, the majority are in Lethbridge, says Alberta Health Services.

According to numbers available Thursday morning, of the 14 hospitalizations in the south zone, only four are in Medicine Hat Regional Hospital including two in ICU. The remaining 10 are at Chinook Regional Hospital and five are in ICU, an AHS spokesperson confirmed.

In the middle of May the number of people with COVID being hospitalized across the province was 4.2 per 100 cases, according to data available on May 11, 2020.

The number of ICU admissions was 0.8 and case fatality 1.9.

At that time there were 237 active cases in the south zone and seven in hospital.

The COIVD numbers available on Thursday morning showed 488 active COVID-19 cases in south zone, slightly more than double the number on May 11, and 14 in hospital – exactly double the situation in May.

The hospitalization rate right now is 3.7. Those requiring ICU is 0.6 per 100 cases and fatalities are 1.1.

By the end of May, Alberta had carried out 260,365 tests. Alberta Health stopped provided laboratory test numbers on Nov. 4. On that date a total of 1,842,754 tests had been done. That means 1,582,389 tests have been done in the last five months, which is roughly 316,477 a month.
