Anyone with an eye to the sky on Thursday may have noticed a WestJet aircraft on its approach to Medicine Hat Regional Airport.
It was a good sign.
From Friday, WestJet began a revised schedule of flights between Medicine Hat Regional Airport and Calgary.
Service has been increased to six flights a week from three, operating Sunday to Friday, arriving at 2:20 p.m. and departing at 2:50 p.m. each day.
WestJet service out of Medicine Hat commenced in June 2018 having contracted with Pacific Coastal Airlines to provide the service in 34-seater Saab aircraft.
Due to the pandemic, WestJet announced in March that it would be reducing the number of flights it operates between Medicine Hat and Calgary from three to two a day.
Since April 1 Air Canada suspended indefinitely its twice daily flights from Medicine Hat to Calgary.
Hours of operation at the Medicine Hat Airport terminal building are now open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 12:30-4:30 p.m. on Sundays. The Terminal is closed Saturday as there are no flights scheduled.
Avis/Budget Car rental is now operating regular hours to meet the needs of the community and travellers.
The airport café however remains closed.
Government regulations require the use of face masks. Anyone more than two years old must wear a face mask during the check in and boarding process and onboard an aircraft.
