Medicine Hat police arrested a local 42-year-old man who they say broke into a woman’s house and assaulted her with pepper spray last week.
Authorities allege he also brandished a firearm during the incident that occurred just before midnight on Oct. 23 near the 300 Block of Fourth Street NW.
No name was released by the Medicine Hat Police Service, which states five charges related to the incident have been laid. They include breaking and entering, assault with a weapon, robbery and possession of dangerous weapons. Six other charges relate to breaking court-imposed release conditions.
Police say the incident was a targeted attack, and they believe there is no threat to the general public.

Drug haul in Sask.
Mounties in east-central Saskatchewan have charged a Strathmore man after they say they found cocaine and garbage bags full of pot during traffic stops.
Two separate stops last week by RCMP officers stationed in Kindersley led to drug investigations and drug-trafficking charges.
Police allege Matthew Lewis Davey, 33, of Strathmore, was speeding on Highway 7 west of Kindersley on Oct. 21, when they say a search found 850 grams of cocaine and seven pounds of cannabis.
The previous day, another man, Clinton James Senko, 34, of Saskatoon, was charged after police seized nearly 100 pounds of marijuana in a separate stop.
Both vehicles were seized, and the men are to appear in court on Dec. 15.
