Medicine Hat College will continue to offer the bulk of its programming online during the upcoming winter semester.
The school announced Wednesday that any programs that can be delivered remotely will continue to be, and courses that require fact-to-face learning like nursing will continue to meet at campus.
“It’s a blended approach and we’re going to continue with it,” said vice-president academic and provost Vicki Roy. “We’re still going to hold some shops, classes and labs at the campus.
“This is in line with just about every post-secondary institution in the province; we will continue down this path for the remainder of the year.”
Roy says there are a couple hundred students coming to campus each day for in-person learning.
“Some courses need it and we will continue to offer it,” she said. “What we’re doing in the winter won’t be much different than what we’re doing now.”
Roy says things are going well so far, with just one COVID-19 case linked to the college. That student had not been to the campus, and it did not have to shut down.
Roy says enrolment is down but it is mostly due to cancelled programs and fewer international students than previous years.
Roy added that MHC will work with students who need to complete practicums to get their diplomas to ensure they graduate on time.
She added that creating a safe place for students and staff is the priority, and that the blended programming is working for the college.
