SaskTel to build cell towers in southwest

By Medicine Hat News on September 25, 2020.

SaskTel will erect several more cellphone towers in southwest Saskatchewan next year, it announced Wednesday as part of a $70-million improvement in coverage that involves 74 new towers.

Shaunavon and Fort Walsh are two locations of note on the list that also includes Simmie (near Gull Lake), and Burnham and Main Centre (near Swift Current).

The Crown telephone company considers the 72 locations listed for the province as underserved rural areas that fall under a 2017 program to improve wireless coverage.

Macro-towers will be built by the summer of 2021.

The current phase closes the program that will spend a total of $104 million to see 300 towers added over four years.
