Swift Current will have a race for mayor this fall

By Medicine Hat News on September 22, 2020.

There will be a race for mayor of Swift Current after two public declarations ahead of official nominations this week.

Incumbent Dennis Perrault will seek a second term this fall, he told the Alberta Newspaper Group last week.

As well, former city councillor and current Chinook School Board trustee Al Bridal announced he would also be a mayoral candidate in the race that concludes on Nov. 9.

Voters in all of Saskatchewan’s urban municipalities and odd-numbered rural municipalities will elect new local leaders this fall. Some nomination periods open today.

In terms of rural governments, only the R.M. of Maple Creek is showing nominated candidates at this point in a database provided by the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities.

There, four registered candidates are seeking three council positions and reeve. They are challenger Elden Jamieson, who is running to become reeve, and council incumbents Cody Thompson (to represent Div. 1), Lee Baynton (for Div. 3), and Solomon Hofer (for Div. 5).
