Prairie Gleaners giving soup to the Mustard Seed in pilot project

By Medicine Hat News on August 11, 2020.

The Prairie Gleaners Society has teamed up with the Mustard Seed in Medicine Hat to bring nourishment to those in need on a weekly basis.

Prairie Gleaners made the announcement late last week, stating the organization will supply two bags of its dehydrated soup mix every week to the Mustard Seed – a charitable group aiming to eliminate homelessness and reduce poverty. Two bags amount to roughly 240 cups of soup, once rehydrated.

“We at the Gleaners see this as an opportunity to provide our local community with our soup mix as well as feeding the hungry of the world,” reads a release from Prairie Gleaners.

The agreement is a pilot project that will operate for a period of three months, which the release says will give both parties the chance to evaluate the viability of the project.

“This partnership means a lot to our Mustard Seed team,” Medicine Hat Mustard Seed managing director Colette Eldrich says in the release. “The soup mix that Prairie Gleaners is providing includes a large variety of fresh local produce, finely chopped – saving us valuable kitchen prep time, making it easy to add hamburger, chicken or turkey for an awesome lunch meal that our guests will love.”
