COVID cases spike in Montana

By Medicine Hat News on July 21, 2020.

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Hill County, Mont., has risen from one to 32 over the course of two weeks, according to public health officials in the region that includes the town of Havre.

On July 6, the first active case in months was recorded when a woman in her 30s tested positive.

Since then contact tracing and other testing have revealed 33 more cases. Two of those are considered recovered.

The cases are the area’s first since early April when a lone male in his sixties tested positive.

On Monday, neighbouring Blaine County, Mont., also recorded its fourth active case, meaning it will come under a governor’s office order to scale back reopening measures.

A total of 88 new cases were reported statewide Monday, bringing the total positives to 2,621, of which 1,248 are active.

In total, 39 Montanans have died.

Hill County, which is south of Cypress County, Alta., had a population of about 16,350 in 2018.
