South zone COVID numbers continue to spike as Brooks situation worsens

With 78 new cases in Brooks and three in Medicine Hat, Alberta’s total COVID-19 caseload is now 4,017.

On Friday, chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw confirmed four new deaths (plus a fifth she initially mentioned on Thursday), 297 new cases province-wide and reiterated the importance of avoiding the social gatherings that have contributed to virus spread.

The rate of COVID-19 cases in the South Zone is now 0.143 per cent, second by region only to Calgary’s 0.168. However, 389 of the zone’s 444 cases are in Brooks.

Medicine Hat has 23 cases total (11 recovered), Cypress County eight (five recovered) and the County of Forty Mile two (both recovered).

Seventy-two people in Alberta have died as a result of the pandemic, including two in Brooks.
