Hours of operation at the Port of Wildhorse will remain as is while the Canadian Border Services announced reduced operations at low-traffic crossings across the country, including 16 on the prairies, on Wednesday.

Staffing adjustments and hours of operations are changing due to reduced traffic volumes as restrictions on travel by the general public enter their fourth week.

They will remain in effect until the expiration of the federal Quarantine Act, and may be adjusted further, according to a release.

Ports at Del Bonita and Carway, Alberta will see reduced evening hours – akin to winter operating schedules, while changes also go into effect for Saskatchewan-based ports at Climax, Monchy, Carievale, Estevan, Northgate, Oungre, and Regway.

Personal and recreational travel across the U.S.-Canada border has been severely curtailed for several weeks, though commercial traffic and travel deemed essential is still permitted.

Travellers that do cross borders are checked for symptoms, according to the release, informed of health and isolation requirements and are required to provide contact information and an address for follow-up by public health officials.

The Port of Wildhorse is currently on summer operating hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays for commercial travel, and more generally from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. all week for general purposes. Travellers should check ahead.
