No new COVID-19 cases in the Hat

Tuesday’s COVID-19 update from the province showed no new cases in Medicine Hat, Cypress County or the County of Forty Mile. It did however, show one more recovered case in the Gas City and one new recovered case in Forty Mile.

The total number of cases in Alberta rose 138 to 1,870. Two more deaths were announced, one in Calgary and one in Edmonton, for a total of 48 related to the global pandemic. The Calgary death was in the Mackenzie Towne long-term care centre where 21 people have now died from the virus.

The south zone reported three new cases for a total of 36. Eleven of those are in Medicine Hat (now five recovered), two in Forty Mile (one recovered) and six in Cypress County (none recovered).

Chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw reiterated that the number of cases is expected to go up after the province expanded the threshold for testing to include anyone who has symptoms. She said 2,868 new tests were done between Monday afternoon and Tuesday, while 37 more cases were marked as recovered (for a total of 914).
