The Medicine Hat SPCA has updated its policies as a result of COVID-19.

SPCA board vice-president Kimberley MacKinnon says the organization is working with a skeleton staff and it has closed its shelter down for animal visitation.

“We’re moving to online and an over-the-phone process as much as possible,” she said. “People can look at the animals online and call in – they’ll be walked through the process by a member of our staff.

“If they fill out an application, they can then book an appointment either on Tuesday or Thursday – we’ll be doing one appointment at a time.”

The SPCA has seven dogs in its care and about 30 cats. Five of the dogs are in foster homes.

The SPCA has partnered with Persian Dreams and Canine themes to raise donations of dry pet food. Financial donations can be sent to Persian Dreams, while food donations can be dropped off at the SPCA.

More information can be found on the Medicine Hat SPCA Facebook page.
