Visual communications at MHC rebrands to ‘art and design’

By Medicine Hat News on March 31, 2020.

The local college’s visual communications program is re-branding as “arts and design” beginning in July.

According to a Medicine Hat College news release, the new name more accurately reflects the program’s content, making it easier for prospective students to find.

“Our philosophy of combining fine art and design makes our program unique in Alberta, and the applied degree includes paid work terms in either fine art or design fields (or both),” says MHC director of visual communications Clint Lawrence. “The new name better reflects this blend of disciplines.”

The program’s content will not change, he added. It will remain a three-year applied degree followed by two work terms.

“We have the opportunity to refresh and reinvigorate our program through recent curriculum mapping. We feel this clean, clear new name can reflect the lively mood and energy of our program, as well as broaden our visibility to prospective students and employers,” said Lawrence.
