Man accused in mall stabbing still in custody in Calgary

A man accused of a non-fatal stabbing at the Medicine Hat Mall is still in custody at the Calgary Remand Centre, court heard Thursday.

Defence counsel Bradley Bellmore asked for a brief adjournment to bring Paul Fabreau, 41, back to Medicine Hat for a bail hearing in provincial court.

Fabreau, who resides in the Hat has had difficulty making long-distance calls and needs to get in touch with his surety, Bellmore said.

Police told the News upon Fabreau’s initial court appearance that he was erroneously sent to Calgary.

The accused was arrested at the mall after allegedly stabbing a 72-year-old man who police confirmed was known to him.

Fabreau faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon and breach of release documents.

His next appearance is March 4.
