Average water levels predicted for region: Alberta Environment

Alberta river forecasters are predicting average to well-above average water levels in Southern Alberta this spring due to the volume of the accumulated mountain snowpack, according to Alberta Environment. Measurements along the tributaries of the Oldman and Bow river basins state half of survey sites on the eastern slopes of the Rockies ranged from about normal to 30 per cent greater than normal at January 1 The Milk River as well as the North Saskatchewan is also expected to be above average for the March to September period. In the late January water supply report, estimates for the Red Deer, Peace and Athabasca rives were not available. Figures for the plains snow course and the Cypress Hills are due in March and encompass data collected in the first two months of the year. Agriculture Alberta, however, states that soil moisture in most of Southern Alberta south of Drumheller is considered near normal to moderately high moving north to south, respectively. 7-6
