Police make pair of drug busts at residences near schools

By Medicine Hat News on January 28, 2020.

Police conducted two drug busts this past week at residences in close proximity to schools.

The two instances were a result of tips from members of the public, which were relayed to the Medicine Hat Police Service Priority Street Crime Unit.

On Jan. 23, police executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Ninth Street SW – two blocks away from Connaught School.

A 30-year-old male resident is facing charges of possessing methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as possession of stolen property under $5,000.

A search warrant was also executed at the 900 block of Elm Street – two blocks from Elm Street School – on Jan. 25, where a 29-year-old male and 40-year-old female were arrested.

Each was charged with possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and heroin for the purposes of trafficking, unlawful possession of firearms, in addition to charges related to modification and possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.

The male was also charged with breaching three prior firearm prohibitions.

Priority Street Crimes will continue to monitor the areas and address concerns as they arise.

Those who suspect drug or gang-related activity in their neighbourhood can report it – anonymously if they wish – on the MHPS app.
