The Redcliff RCMP were investigating a suspicious death just south of Medicine Hat Tuesday.

Police are investigating a suspicious death after a male body was discovered on a rural road near Medicine Hat.

The Redcliff RCMP responded Monday around 11 a.m. to reports of a deceased male south of the city and east of Highway 3, according to a media release.

Cpl. Deanna Fontaine told the News a member of the public “came across” the body and contacted police.

Responding officers determined the death to be suspicious and the investigation has been taken over by the Major Crimes Unit.

As of Tuesday afternoon, RCMP members – including the Forensic Identification Section – remained on scene at Township Road 114 and Range Road 61 to conduct an investigation.

Fontaine said the Medicine Hat Police Service provided the RCMP with office space to work out of at the city’s police station.

An autopsy is scheduled for today. The timeline for completion is in the hands of the medical examiner, Fontaine said.

“It depends if they have any other cases,” she said.

The RCMP says it will provide an update as soon as further information becomes available.
