A campaign by Medicine Hat College students to collect menstrual products for the local food bank – dubbed “#NotaBloodyLuxury” on social media – raised 13,645 pounds of items this year.
Tara Williams, an MHC business instructor whose marketing and visual communications students spearhead the annual campaign – conceiving a different brand each year – says this was a significant increase from the 5,196 pounds of product collected last year, with more items still coming in.
“These items will get out to those who need the support,” Williams told the News.
“People that struggle to buy food should not go without appropriate menstruation products. Lack of access to these items further perpetuates the cycle of poverty.”
