A local painter is hosting an art show Saturday to raise money for the Children’s Wish Foundation.

Linda Kriel says she was approached by Donna Serr of the foundation about doing a fundraiser for them.

“Eventually, it’s like, ‘What’s the purpose of the art? Where’s it going?’ And this came to me,” she told the News.

The cause is personal for Kriel – her own daughter died from cancer at 15 years old.

“Her 40th birthday is coming up in a few weeks and in my purpose behind this is it’s a little gift I can give back to my daughter,” she said.

She’ll have about 55 paintings for sale at her Desert Blume home, with 50 per cent of proceeds going toward the foundation.

There will be a wide array of pieces available, she added.

“I paint with a wide variety of mediums and topics,” Kriel said, citing her portrait, landscaping and abstract work, as well as acrylic, pencil and pen, watercolours and oils.

She says her primary sources of inspiration are nature, family and travel.

“I’m still on this journey of exploring,” said Kriel. “Every medium creates a new adventure.”

She’s relatively new to the art scene, having started just 15 years ago.

“In my wildest dreams, I didn’t know adults could have this much fun,” Kriel said. “I just tapped into a place inside of myself that was absolutely full of joy when I do this. And it hasn’t stopped. It just keeps building.”

In addition to raising money for the Children’s Wish Foundation, she says she hopes “to inspire other people to tap into creativity inside themselves.”

The event goes from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 64 Links Place, for those interested in attending.
