Harts Connect hosting fundraiser event to support winter comfort program

Harts Connect is holding a fundraiser on Oct. 26 with a garage sale, a barbecue and a bake sale between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The event takes place at the River Valley Community Church at the Queen Street location.

Harts Connect was launched earlier this year by Sandi Hart, who said there was a need for small comforts to help the homeless survive. On cold winter nights volunteers distributed emergency care packages that included a blanket, a chocolate bar, a $5 coffee shop gift card, a toque, and hand a feet warmers. Each package cost $16 and depends on donations from the public.

Harts says it is between the hours of 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. that many homeless people are observed walking around – perhaps to try and stay warmer.
